description

The Essential Armoured Motorcycle Shirt and new, game changing, innovation in protective rider apparel.

A lightweight, armoured shirt that is CE approved as a standalone “Class A” garment. Designed to be the most versatile, CORE garment for any rider, no matter what motorcycle they ride. Worn close to the body, the armour stays in place and won’t move around. Designed to be worn on its own in hot weather with no other jacket required, the Urbane Pro is the ultimate lightweight, breathable, impact and abrasion resistant shirt.

It delivers freedom, comfort and protection on a motorcycle, like never before. In changing weather conditions add warm or waterproof layers over the top, knowing that the Urbane Pro is still the CORE abrasion and armour layer beneath. The Urban Pro also works seamlessly with Knox outerwear jackets, which expand to accept extra layers. This is another first for Knox who have been pioneers in armour since 1981 when the founder, Geoff Travell, created the world’s 1st back protector.

The first Knox Armoured shirt was released in 1994 and in the following 25 years, it has been the Knox mission to provide riders with close fitting protection, in one easy to wear solution. With the introduction of the revolutionary Urbane Pro, CE approved abrasion resistance is built in, meaning an outer shell is no longer necessary unless you want to wear one.

Made by Knox in the UK using technical fabrics specially selected for their abrasion, cut and tear resistance.Skilfully designed and crafted by Knox from the ground up with added stretch panels for comfort and flexibility so you can forget you are wearing armour.

First up, Chromeburmer, awesome service as usual and this garment is well made and full of mesh for great air flow. No gripes about that, however, for me it was an abject disappointment, a good deal of which is my fault.
I live in Perth Western Australia and my idea of summer is a bit different than most of the world with weeks/months of days running between 35-45 deg C. I can't be a Harley rider and ride in T-shirts so I already have a Joe Rocket mesh Jacket and Klim Mesh Baja 4 pants. Hence, I know what good airflow mesh means. I was looking for an even lighter weight armoured shirt and thought this would be it judging by pictures and reviews. It's not! It's every bit as heavy as a full on mesh jacket, and gave zero cooling advantage over my Joe Rocket.
Less in fact because what's more, it's TIGHT and that made it quite hot walking around, much hotter than the jacket.
I got size L based off the size chart. I am 179cm (just under 5'11), relatively broad shouldered with a 34 waist. At 61 my young man's body hasn't completely shriveled away, soI struggled to slip this on over my arms and do up the zip (it's not that stretchy). I think the cut is made for straight up and down builds (like the tall handsome dude in the pictures). If you're that, good to go. If you're a little more robust - beware. Had I gone a size up the sleeves would have been too long as would the body.
So, in summary it is a strong heavy well made armoured jacket with very good mesh area. It is by no means a "shirt". The size chart is biased very tight for their layered system, and the cut is for narrow shoulders - straight builds.

faq

Do I have to wear a motorcycle jacket on top of an armored shirt ?

Armored shirts offer, as the name implies, sufficient protection and can therefore be worn as a stand-alone motorcycle garment. In fact, armored shirts are worn directly on the body, so you can wear any layer of your choice on top of the Armored shirt, this could be for layers purely for style or to protect you from the elements.

Is a protective vest specifically for the summer?

No, the vests are designed as a versatile, protective motorcycle garment and can be worn all year round. But because they are almost always entirely made from a abbrasion-resistant mesh, they can be worn and are in fact ideal for hot summer days.

What is the advantage of a protection vest?

In contrast to normal jackets, the protection is, as it were, directly on the skin. This ensures that the protection stays in place and has much less chance of shifting around while on the bike.
